Where is your hotel located?

Middlethorpe Hall is located two miles south of York's city centre, with easy access from the A64 ring road.

What are my travel options to the hotel?

By Road:
Take the A64(T) off the A1(T) near Tadcaster, follow signs to York West (A1036), then the smaller signs to Bishopthorpe, Race Course, then Middlethorpe.

By Rail:
The nearest station is York to which there is an excellent and very fast train service from London, Edinburgh and most parts of Britain.  The journey from London takes only 1 hour 50 minutes.

By Air:
Manchester International Airport is just 1 1/2 hours drive.  Leeds International Airport is a 45 minute drive.

Helicopter landing is available.

Does your property have free parking?

Yes, there is ample secure parking.

Do you accept credit card payment?

We accept payment by American Express, Mastercard, Visa and Delta credit/debit cards.  We do not accept Diners Club.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you cancel your reservation within 48 hours of your arrival date (or within 14 days for bookings of five rooms or more, or for overseas booking) is liable to be charge for unless we are able to re-let the accommodation to another guest.

Does your property have disabled access?

Entrance to the hotel is by way of three steps.  For wheelchair users, a temporary ramp can be placed at the side entrance to the right of the main hotel front entrance to enable ease of access.

The Paget Suite located on the ground floor of the C18th Courtyard is fully wheelchair accessible.

Do you have a policy on children?

Middlethorpe Hall welcomes families with children over the age of 6 years in the hotel and over the age of 8 years in the Spa at specified times when accompanied by an adult.

Do you have a policy on dogs?

We welcome dogs at Middlethorpe Hall in the Cottage Suites and Garden Suite by prior arrangement.  Two small dogs or one larger dog may be accommodated, but are not allowed in the bedrooms.  You may walk with your dog(s) in the park, but may not take your dog into the gardens.  Any damage to the rooms or injury to livestock will be charged for.  We regret that dogs are not allowed in the main house, unless guide dogs.

Do you have free WiFi?

Yes.  All bedrooms and public rooms have free WiFi access.

Do you have a smoking policy?

In line with National Legislation, our hotel is non-smoking, including all public rooms, bedrooms and suites.  A deep cleaning charge of £100 per day will be added to your bill if evidence of smoking is detected in your bedroom.

What type of food do you serve?

Locally sourced, seasonal modern British.  Seasonal fruit and vegetables from our own garden.

What are the restaurant opening times?

Breakfast:
Monday-Friday 7.30am - 9.30am
Saturday, Sunday 8.00am - 10.00am
Bank Holidays, York Race Days 8.00am - 10.00am

Luncheon:
Wednesday to Sunday 12 noon - 1.45pm

Snack menu luncheon:
Everyday 12 noon - 1.45pm

Afternoon Tea:
Monday - Friday 2.30pm - 5.30pm
Saturday, Sunday 3.00pm - 5.30pm

Dinner:
Every day  6.30pm - 9.30pm

Is the restaurant open to non-residents?

Yes, we welcome dining guests and recommend strongly that they make a table reservation either by phone or online.

Can you accommodate special dietary requirements?

Yes, we cater for all dietary requirements, and just ask that you let us know ahead of your visit so that our chef can prepare accordingly.

Should you have a food allergy or intolerance, please consult a member of staff before deciding what to eat and placing an order, on every occasion, whilst in the hotel.

Do you have a dress code for dining in the restaurant?

Yes, smart please (although jacket and tie for gentlemen are not obligatory): trainers, tracksuits and shorts are not acceptable.

Can I drop into the hotel and have a drink or a coffee?

Yes, you would be welcome to use our public rooms (if available) or the south facing terrace.

Can I book for exclusive use or private dining?

Do you have family rooms?

Yes, extra beds can be put in our superior rooms and the Garden Suite and Cottage Suite both have a double and a single room.

Do you have Sky TV?

No, Freeview channels are available.

What’s included in the room?

Each room is en-suite and equipped with a two-line telephone with ISDN data socket and voice-mail, WiFi, trouser press, hairdryer and combination TV/DVD player.

Room rates includes early morning tea, full English breakfast, full use of Middlethorpe Spa and complimentary parking.

What are your check in and check out times?

Bedrooms are guaranteed to be ready by 2pm on the day of arrival, and check-out time is by 12 noon on the day of departure.

Is the Spa open to non-residents?

Yes, the Spa is open to Spa members and those enjoying Spa Day packages.

Can I use the Spa while staying at the hotel?

Yes, hotel resident guests have full use of the Spa facilities.  

Spa treatments must be booked in advance.

What fitness facilities do you have?

The Spa has a 12 metre indoor pool sauna, steam room, spa pool and gymnasium.

Do you have a pool at your hotel?

Yes, the Spa has a 12 metre indoor swimming pool.

What are the Spa opening hours?

Monday to Friday: 7.30am - 8pm

Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays: 8am - 7pm

Restricted opening hours on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.

Treatments are available between 8am - 5pm daily and until 7pm on Thursdays.

What is your Spa cancellation policy?

If you cancel your treatment less that 24 hours prior to the appointment, or if you fail to attend at the time of the reserved treatment, you will incur a 50% charge.  If you need to cancel, please contact the Spa Reception on 01904 661317

Can I visit the gardens if I am a National Trust member?

You can visit the 20 acres of gardens and parkland if you are a paying guest of Middlethorpe Spa, the restaurant and main hotel, resident of the hotel or Spa member; this is irrespective of National Trust membership.

Can I explore the house if I am a National Trust member?

The main house is open to paying guests of Middlethorpe Hall & Spa and those taking breakfast, morning coffee, luncheon, afternoon tea or dinner, and to all hotel residents and Spa members.

What is the discount for National Trust members?

National Trust members benefit from our seasonal reader offer advertised in the Trust's magazine.

What is the relationship between Historic House Hotels and National Trust?

In September 2008, Historic House Hotels Ltd and all its interest in Middlethorpe Hall and the other two Historic House Hotels, became the property of the National Trust by donation, with all profits henceforward benefitting the houses and the chairty.
