Castle Howard

Castle Howard is just 21.5 miles north east of Middlethorpe Hall and easily accessible from the A64.

Best known for its film sets, following the transformation of derelict rooms, for both the 1981 and 2008 versions of 'Brideshead Revisited'.  

Castle Howard is the family home of the Howard family, descended from Lord William Howard the youngest son of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk.  

Although the building work for the house began in 1699, the construction of Castle Howard took over 100 years to complete, spanning the lifetimes of three Earls. It houses some fascinating exhibitions and displays giving a glimpse the rich and varied history of Castle Howard.

The house with its Chapel sits in 1000 acres of gardens a parkland, with woodland walks, temples, lakes and fountains to explore.
